HULU:

COST: FREE (but with commercials). Hulu Plus is $7.99 per month (free for 1 month)

SUBTITLES: Many new shows have subtitles, but some do not.

OFFERS: Hulu offers mostly recent episodes of tv shows for FREE with comercials. To watch older shows and complete seasons you will need to pay for Hulu Plus. Hulu is just for watching on your computer. With Hulu Plus you can watch on your smartphone and through your wii, ps3 or x-box 360.

NETFLIX:

COST: FREE for 1 month trial. $7.99 per month after that.

OFFERS: Thousands of American TV shows that you can watch online on any computer that has a fast enough internet connection. You can stream through your computer, wii, PS3, X-box 360, and a number of smartphones. You can watch shows at home, or at school during your lunch break. You can watch movies, documentaries, or tv shows.

 

TRY THEM OUT! I use both of them every day. They are a relaxing way to improve your english speaking. They can help you learn idioms, slang, more about our culture, and help you sound more like a native speaker.

 

These classes are offered in place of the Lab classes. Students are required to take them, but they can choose a class where they can work on a specific language skill.

If you are a Level 3 student and have not yet expressed your preference,  please read the description below and send Anna Eddy (Anna.Eddy@unt.edu) an email with your last name, your first name, and the name of the most preferred class (1st choice) and another class (2nd choice) in case the first one is not available.

Level 3 Listening Class

The purpose of the Listening Class is to help students improve their academic listening skills. Students listen to short academic talks, write and speak about this information, and practice listening for the topic, main idea, details, and numbers.

 

Level 3 Speaking Class

The goals of the Speaking Class are to help students develop academic speaking skills and improve their presentation skills. In this class, students express information and opinions using academic English, learn how to develop an effective outline for their presentations, give short presentations on a variety of topics, and work on pronunciation.

 

Level 3 Spelling Class

In the Spelling Class, students develop their spelling skills by learning and practicing spelling patterns in English. These activities are designed to help students improve their spelling in general and be able to spell words correctly in compositions and on tests.
